“we love living on The Elms for the beautiful parkland, lakes and walks along the canal bank. We also enjoy the security. The Park being family owned and managed offers us peace of mind”

“after visiting 12 Park Home sites within a one hour radius of Sheffield, we found The Elms. We were amazed by the security, open spaces and the many different walks round this Park. The best walk being one along the Fossdyke Canal – built by the Romans, I understand. Being anglers, this clinched it for us. My wife and myself both fish. We can fish the Torksey basin and also the bank below the moorings.
We have lived on The Elms for 12 years and find the Kinch family so helpful if any problems have arisen”

“My wife and I decided to come and live at The Elms because we would have somewhere to live that gave us peace and quiet; a safe environment; a place where you can chat to your neighbours; go for pleasant walks and enjoy different activities.
I enjoy the boating on the Fossdyke Canal. Also, I can keep my caravan close by ready for our holidays.
We have been very happy living here – why not come and look at what we have found……..”

“Now in our 15th year at The Elms, we have seen the park expand, not just in the number of homes, but in the environment of the park with the continual planting of trees, shrubs etc. This has had a great effect in the variety of birds which we see. The park was good when we came, but one has to say it is a place of real beauty.

Thankfully the park is owned and run by a wonderful family, who are always there in times of crisis and if you need advice on matters to do with your home. Mr Kinch (senior) has also played a big part in Torksey itself, especially with our parish church. He then built a new modern surgery for our doctor and nurses to work out of.

During our crisis last year when I spent three months in Lincoln County Hospital, our neighbours and other residents on the park rallied round and worked a rota to take Edna to hospital. I think this shows the sort of people who live at The Elms. Anyone thinking about moving on The Elms can have as much privacy as they want or they can join in the social events that exist like the art group; craft group; fishing club; swimming club; luncheon club etc.

Moving to The Elms was one of our better decisions in life……….”

“As a keen angler, I was very familiar with Torksey and the surrounding area and aware of the location of The Elms retirement park. When the time came when our children became independent and our house became too big for our needs, we decided to look into the possibility of a move to The Elms. I persuaded my wife to come and “have a look” and eventually we decided to move here and bought our home. We spent several months re-decorating to suit our taste and moved in the following year. I was still working full time and spent a while commuting until the peace and tranquillity afforded by the life on The Elms “pointed the way”!

Our house in Sheffield had a large garden and both my wife and I were keen gardeners so we decided to make use of our knowledge and experience and started to work here on The Elms as full time “grounds-persons”! We have lived and worked here now for over 9 years and are extremely happy, both as residents and employees of the Kinch family.

We have made many new friends and enjoy an active social life playing golf at the nearby Millfield complex, visiting a choice of local pubs and entertaining at home with summer barbeques and winter dinner parties.

Lincoln and Gainsborough are only a short drive away with Retford and Newark a little further afield.

The park itself is extremely well kept – we are biased of course! – with a range of shrubberies, lakes and fountains and has an overall feeling of tranquillity and security.

All in all we love our life here and would recommend it!”

“My wife and I decided to look into the possibility of “downsizing” into a park home 5 years ago at the grand old age of 51.

Our children had moved out of our large, old, high maintenance family home of 24 years and it was time to act. The Elms in Torksey was the first of about 10 parks we visited which fulfilled our fundamental requirement of being within an hour or so of where we lived to facilitate visiting our family and friends and vice-versa.

From the first time we came here we loved the peaceful environment with the well tended gardens. Lakes, fountains and the proximity to the Fossdyke Canal but most of all the “safe” feeling afforded by the security barrier at the entrance. After many follow up visits we decided that The Elms was the one so we ordered our home, chose our specification and finally moved in 13 months later giving us ample time to sell our house in Rotherham.

We have the advantage of the peaceful, rural environment with a choice of public houses and restaurant all within walking distance. Lincoln, Gainsborough, Retford and Newark are all easily reached in 30 minutes or so.

The proximity of the canal and the River Trent makes very attractive to anglers and the Millfield Golf Complex with 3 courses is only 1.5 miles away.

We have made a whole host of new friends of all ages and from all walks of life and have absolutely no regrets in moving here and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.”

“Through our caravanning days twelve years ago, we discovered this lovely park of Lincolnshire and The Elms.

I remember walking around The Elms thinking this is the place where I want to retire. Just over three years ago we made an appointment to return. We were shown around by Ann, a member of the Kinch family to view three properties. As we viewed the last property we immediately knew this was the one for us. There and then we struck up a deal, returning to Rotherham to sell our home. Six weeks later we returned to The Elms to set up in our new home and start our early retirement.

Lots of days we pass our time walking, cycling or golfing. The canal where my husband fishes, is only a few yards away.

The best way I can describe The Elms is when I vaguely remember the 50’s, when I was a small girl and I felt secure, peaceful and everyone was so friendly.

In the summers we spend most of our time outside and long evenings are sometimes spent with friends or family having a quiet drink or a barbeque.

As grandparents, we are looking forward to the times when our first grandson will be visiting and staying awhile, but not yet as he is only two weeks old.

The Elms is owned and managed by the Kinch family who keep the estate and park immaculate. The family have cleverly catered for almost our every need, including mini-bus, three mobile shops and a visiting library. We also have a doctor’s surgery and a park, which the Kinches kindly donated to the village.

The leaves only one more thing to say.

What a wonderful place to retire."

“Both my wife Catherine and I were born and brought up in neighbouring South Yorkshire, and as a boy I used to stay at Laneham Ferry Caravan Park with my parents. This is situated just over the River Trent from Torksey.

As we grew older, Catherine and I bought our own caravan and spent almost every weekend of the season there. Through a friend of a friend, we were invited over to The Elms to a barbeque, and during the evening were given a guided tour of the park.

We quickly made a decision to make a follow up appointment to enable us to gain a residents insight into life on the park, from the prospective of people of our own age (early-mid fifties), we were impressed and made an appointment for a formal visit, with a view to inspect available properties.

Finally settling on a recently refurbished “double” home which needed only a few minor changes to suit our individual taste, we then sold both our home in Rotherham and the caravan in Laneham as the home in Torksey fulfilled all our needs.

We still visit Rotherham on a weekly basis to see family and friends – which we used to call “going home for a couple of days”. But, fairly quickly the return journey became known as “coming home”! We have settled into life on the park and enjoy being neighbourly.

We enjoy an active social life and find the near by lanes quiet and peaceful to walk round and Lincoln and Gainsborough easily accessible by car."
